Hey guys this is my beetle

its a 1970 1200 model with a 1600 engine running twin 34's.
it has disc brakes all round and has recently been resprayed.

It has all VDO clocks inside and has an EMPI hurst shifter. All i need to do now is get some new seats preferably something a bit more comfortable and with headrests.

Let me know what you think.

The Oval in my Avatar was my mate, the one we used to Rally and race, 1954 with a worked on 1200, all his own work, profiling all and every thing, still got a couple of spare polished valves, look like they are chromed even after 40+ years.

The rear suspension has been lowered as per the old way, changing the spline setting on the torsion bar, front was standard except for extra anti roll bar.

My one was a 1953 with a 1600 twin port with a special cam, (ex Formula Super Vee) everything was balanced, lightened and tufrided, special flywheel and clutch, twin 40mm twin choke down-draft Solex from an Austrian Porche, my mates brother worked for Porche in Austria, and my mate Hienz did his apprenticeship with Porsche Austria

Type two gearbox, less reduction gear and the crown-wheel turned 180 deg. different gearing making
it longer legged.

Suspension was lowered as per my mates but I fitted 14 inch rims on the front.
Both cars had 185x15 on the rears, Also on the front of Hienz's car, mine had 185x14 type two on the front, centres reversed.
all wheel were done by West London Wheels the 15" had a band welded in to widen them.

Remember this was in the late 1960's early 1970's so VW modifications was still in the early stages over here.
Initial acceleration was slow till the cam came in at 2,000 rpm then a real kick in the pants, best we had was 0-60 in under 8 seconds, with four up, one weighing in at 18 stone.
Had 125MPH on the M3 but never had it flat out, and 32mpg.
Quicker round Brands than a mini cooper, but my mate being the better driver was even quicker in his  car.
Almost forgot I also fitted Porsche 356 brakes, lot wider than the standard, and were a tight fit in the wheel riims also twin leeding shoe.
Still miss that car

PS.
I also fitted a sump extention, bigger oil capacity and stopped oil surge when cornering hard, but I had to take it of as I ground down the fins with the back end dipping so much on hard acceleration.
