PostSubject: 66 westfalia volksworld camper & bus feature   Mon Mar 21, 2011 7:59 am

hi this is our westy as it was found in washington state usa after resting there for a quarter of a century

and after it was dragged out of the field and cleaned up a bit

when the old girl arrived in this country we drove down to southsea to see her in the metal for the first time.

i loved marks old shop truck that he had just put up for sale aswell, if only it was a case of moneys no object i'd of had that awell Laughing anyway we liked what we saw so gave mark the go ahead to start work so over the next few months work progressed

some of the many repair panels needed

all the body work complete and the chocolate brown pop top canvas fitted

the wheels mocked up for the first time to see how they'd look before the 6" narrowed beam and 3" narrowed straight axle conversion went in

these three pics are of her finished and moving under her own power for the first time in over twenty five years, just waiting for the reg to come through before we could pic her up

and finally how she looks now, i'm slowly adding period bits and pieces as i can aford to

we've wanted a roof rack since we brought our westy and we're going to need one this year so we don't have to try and pack all the camping gear, awning, kids, dog ect inside the van Rolling Eyes i don't want a new one and can really justify the paying the prices the period ones fetch these days so i decided to make one. i've always liked making new things out of old junk and i had a load of old awning polls lying around from an nackered caravan awning so one free recycled rack coming up Very Happy here's the platform part almost finished

just the top rail and mounting brackets to make up and weld on then a bit of paint and ageing then hopefully it'll look like it's been on the van forever

Hi Tim, liking the vw, is the interior still the same or have you changed it? I have often wondered about buying a car from america, is it expensive to do with the shipping and that?

Tom.

Tom.

hi tom the interior is the restored original but the rear seats have been covered with cloth instead of vinyl and the fronts with a mexican blanket. we are missing the spice rack and table off the doors and also the sink unit and main table but i'm planning to make a couple of tables when i've finished the rack. i don't know the costs of importing ect because when we heard about the bus mark from the bus station had already brought it and was in the process of importing it, we just payed him for the bus and resto when it arrived so the only painful bit for us was finding the money
lol!

mot is due next week and wouldn't you know it things have started falling apart lol! i'm having real problems keeping all the rear lights working, the horn has just packed up and the other day i caught my tail pipe on the kerb backing into my drive. i snapped the flange off the silencer and mangled the brackets, tail pipe and baffle pipe so i've had to weld the flange back on and make a getto tail pipe up for now until i decide what to replace it with. also brought these to sort out my light problems

G'day Tim,

Great to see your bus featured in the mag. Interesting I just bought a Bay Westy from Mark down in Portsmouth at the The Bus Station. Mark was really proud of your bus and telling me all about it. Showed me the pics etc. I didn't realise the bus was only just down the road in Sandwich.

Looking forward to meeting you and all the others in the club.

hi simon small world isn't it, two bus station bus finding new homes just a couple of miles apart Laughing mark's a really nice fella isn't he. we were chatting to him at the volksworld show last year just before he'd finished our bus and he was telling us that it was his dream bus build, he knew exactly how he wanted to build it before we brought it. when we went to look at it he told us what he wanted to do, it sounded perfect so we just let him do what ever he wanted.
